Collaboration
Our nurse-midwives provide care at four office locations: Durham Women’s Clinic (Durham and Brier Creek), Chapel Hill OB/GYN (Chapel Hill and Southpoint) . As CNM’s, we work collaboratively with the Ob/Gyn physicians who practice out of these offices in the office setting and while on call at Duke Regional Hospital. This relationship allows for streamlined coordination of care in a team-based approach both in the office and during any hospitalization. With this collaborative environment we are able to ensure you get the highest level of care you need while guaranteeing medical or technological interventions are used only when necessary.
Certified
Nurse-Midwives
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM’s) are registered nurses with advanced training and education in the art and skill of midwifery. Nurse midwives must complete a training program, most are Master’s prepared, demonstrate clinical competence and pass rigorous certification examination. They also must participate in yearly training and education to maintain certification.
CNM’s are independent healthcare providers who provide care to women throughout their lifespans. Nurse-midwives perform physical exams, prescribe medications including contraceptive methods, order laboratory tests as needed, provide prenatal care, gynecological care, labor and birth care, as well as health education and counseling to women of all ages. All CNM’s are committed to individualized, patient (woman)-centered care and encourage patient involvement in all aspects of health.
